For the past five years now, I have been sorting my music on Spotify in monthly playlists. I’ve only missed a couple of months but for most of the time, it’s been quite consistent.
Why I’m doing this?
You probably know the feeling of reliving a memory when hearing a specific song. To me, the combination of various songs is even more powerful than that. For the past 5 years, I have collected my favourite songs of the month in a playlist. That way, I can always access a certain period of time in my life, it feels a little bit like time travel. It’s super easy, doesn’t take a lot of effort & really pays off for me.
“Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty. Magical music never leaves the memory.”
Sir Thomas Beecham
Honestly, I’m really glad that I’ve been doing this for so long. Besides enjoying an occasional time travel through a particular combination of songs, it’s also a great way to find songs of which you cannot seem to remember the artist and/or title. Usually, you remember around which time you listened to a particular song, so having your music curated in monthly playlists makes it a lot easier to find it!
HoW do you curate your playlists? do you have any habits?
