David Ogilvy (* 1911 – † 1999) is also known as “the Father of Advertising”. After moving to the United States, he founded an advertising agency in 1948 that remains one of the most impactful agencies. Ogilvy has gained immense international recognition, working for the most known brands in the world – or even transforming brands into the most known of the world.
In 1963 he published his book Confessions of an Advertising Man, which includes his insights and advice on managing an advertising agency, dealing with clients and writing potent copy. Even today, many advertisers still rely on the ideas and theories of this extraordinary man.
“It pays to listen more than you talk.”
David Ogilvy’s advice on how you get & keep clients (though this applies to everything/-one in life, in my opinion).
Big ideas are usually simple ideas.

Even though, this great mind has ceased to live among us (RIP David Ogilvy), his spirit lives on at his agency Ogilvy. Check out their website ogilvy.com to see some of the creative advertising they have done.
3 Reasons Why
This book probably won’t spark interest for just anyone to read and it’s definitely not on top of my list or even counts as one of my favourites. Nevertheless, there are three reasons why I think you should read it anyway.
You’re in the industry
If you are a member of the advertising industry, Ogilvy’s thoughts could be a source of inspiration to you.
interesting story
David Ogilvy is probably a prime example for the American dream in realization.
Then vs. Now
It’s really interesting to compare Ogilvy’s thoughts about the technological novelties for advertising then (coloured TV) with the novelties today (social media).
