This poem was written as a result of inner conflict and helped me to deal with the contradicting thoughts and paradoxical feelings I had about life. Writing this piece has helped me to realize that it’s not always this or that, black or white, left or right – sometimes, it’s all of the above, or none. And that’s okay.
Frankfurt am Main, Germany, May 2018
To M.A.
The rule is to ignore all rules
Promise me no promises and remind me to forget
Desire not to desire and don’t be tempted by temptation
Do it but don’t overdo, think it over but don’t overthink
Talk without saying anything and see without your eyes
Some love to love and hate to hate
Some hate to love and love to hate
Negative positivity, impossible possibility, finite infinity
Never always and always never, temporarily forever
Unconcerned worry, sorry not sorry
An honest liar, a peaceful war,
A free slave, a hateful lover,
A future past, a happy sadness,
A silent scream, a healthy sickness,
Careless care and thoughtless thoughts
Insignificantly crucial, crazily sane
Some guys are weird because they aren’t weird
Some minds are full without being mindful
Some laughter doesn’t know a smile
So get high when you’re low
Expect the unexpected and predict the unpredictable
It’s too soon and it’s too late, not yet and not anymore
I feel that I don’t feel anything
But the one thing I know is that I know nothing
